"Ghidrah! The Three-Headed Monster."

--

Many strange cases have come out of History of Godzilla. The Mysterians were the first invasion from outer space. They had brought with them their own giant machines called Mogueras to destroy mankind.

But this was the first time that any Monster from another planet came to Earth...and even more astonishingly, it came in and of it's own will.

Not much time has passed since Godzilla's defeat by the Mothra larvae. He had so far remained quiet and away from Japan. Mothra in the meantime felt something coming...Something pure evil. One of Mothra's old enemies was coming to earth...and lucky for Mankind, Mothra wasn't the only one who knew about it.

It all began when Princess Selina Salno of Selgina made her visit in Japan. She left her country to escape an assassination attempt. Her flight into Japan was on the night of a spectacular meteor shower...one that Mothra, among others, knew spelled Doom for Mankind.
However, during the shower, a strange phenomena occurred.

The princess heard her name called out to her by a strange and calming voice. They instructed her to leave the plane...and she followed the orders. Her caretakers did not understand what had happened when she walked toward the door of her private jet and walked out of the plane, thousands of feet over Japan...conveniently right before a bomb went off and detonated the plane. All, inlcuding the princess, were presumed dead.

At the same time, elsewhere in Japan, the largest meteor of the shower had crash-landed out in the wilderness. Professor Murai, (involved in the previous file) took a team of scientists out there to study the space rock. It was strange as the meteor seemed to have some sort of magnetic attraction.

Police Detective Shindo, who was ordered to be her body guard during her stay in Japan, was distraught when he learned she was killed before she even arrived. He had fallen for her when he saw her photograph...he could never forget her face. But surprisingly, one day, Selina is found in Japan, very much alive! She was preaching terribly prophecies to a disbelieving crowd.

Shindo, recognizes her as the princess, yet she claims to not be. She states that she is a Prophet from the planet Mars, and that she is there to tell them of a foreboding doom that will soon befall planet earth, the same fate that destroyed all life on Mars. He gets her cat-scanned by a professional who can't find anything physically or mentally wrong with her. Shindo began to consider the possibility that she was a Martian...because even though it wasn't plausible that she was possessed by a Martian, her prophesies were coming true!

The Shobijin were in Japan, appearing on a television show. They had become quite the celebrities as the Heralds of Japan's Savior Mothra. Japan felt that if they were treated nicely, they wouldn't hesitate to call on Mothra to save Japan if the situation called for it. The two were expecting to return to Infant Island on a ship...However, they heard the Princess's prediction that their ship would be destroyed, and per Mothra's orders, they listened to her. Their ship was indeed destroyed, but even more astonishingly was that she predicted what destroyed the ship...Godzilla had finally woken up!

The Martians were indeed warning Japan of a terrible fate...but the Princess herself was still a target. Her uncle was behind the assassination to obtain a golden band which proves her royal bloodline. When he heard that she was alive, he sent his best man to finish the job. But this didn't defer the Martian controlling her from making more predictions as the next attempt was thwarted by Shindo.

Her other prediction was one that no one would believe. This time, it was about a second creature...the Giant Pteranodon, Rodan!

For those of you who don't know, during Godzilla's Hibernation, Rodan was the first creature to awaken. Two eggs sealed away in a mine shaft along with preserved specimens of a prehistoric insect, Meganulons, were irradiated by uranium deposits underneath the mine. When the mine was opened, the Meganulons escaped the shafts and went into the local village to feed. A brave miner managed to seal off the mine with explosives unfortunately sealing himself inside the Meganulon's next.

That is when he saw the shocking truth. Two gigantic dinosaur eggs inside the next were beginning to hatch revealing newborn Rodans. A traumatizing event was witnessed as the miner watched the Radon devour all of the Meganulas. And as the birds grew, they escaped the mine.

The Rodans proved to be able to fly at supersonic speed and caused much destruction with their sonic booms. They cause much destruction similar to Godzilla's own rampage. But worse than Godzilla, both of these Rodans were opposing genders, and completely compatible. If they weren't stopped, they would breed and a new species would arrive. Mankind would be doomed.

However, as the Radon prepared to hibernate in at the base of Mt. Aso, the military bombed them and blew open the volcano causing an eruption. The two Rodans fled the seen. But the female was caught in the volcanic fumes and descended into the crater where it was killed by the lava. The remaining Male turned back to the cries of its mate and flew in to die with her. Both creatures died in the fire chasm.

And now, the princess claimed that the latter Rodan survived and would awaken. It wasn't possible!!! But it happened...Rodan emerged from the volcano and was quick to deal out the Rage upon loosing his mate...and it was only a matter of time, until he met Godzilla.

The news of Godzilla fighting Rodan in America didn't make enough news as much as a new headline was. The princesses third prediction was the reason why she came here. She claimed that the same creature that was responsible for draining Mars of its life-source had now come to earth. Its name was...Ghidrah.

Out in the wilderness, Murai was bewildered as he watched the Meteor cool down. They had been running tests on the rock and learned that it was hollow. And even more shocking was that there was indeed something inside it. Something like a 'living flame'. Then the meteor completely cooled. It changed into a strange bluish color and then into a light pink. Sparks erupted from the cracks forming on the surface.

Soon the meteor split open in a massive explosion. Then a huge flame shot up into the sky. When the smoke died down a strange fire-ball was left in the air. Suddenly the fire began to take shape into a large creature with wings, two tails and three dragon heads. This was Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster!!!

The Dragon flew around the country destroying Japan with sonic booms similar to Rodan's and lightning shot from each of his three mouths. News of this new fantastic creature quickly obscured Godzilla and Rodan from the news. Countries all over the world were preparing to defend themselves against this creature if it came.

Mothra was distraught when Ghidrah appeared from the meteor. This was not the first time she had encountered Ghidrah. They had a past history that spanned Millions of years ago. But the odds were against her now in her Larval form. But she had considering a plan for months ever since she first met Godzilla.

Japan begged the Shobijin to call on Mothra to fight Ghidrah. While they agreed that she cannot defeat Ghidrah on her own, there was a hope. If she could convince both Godzilla and Rodan to put aside their differences and fight against Ghidrah alongside her, then they could win. This was Mothra's own idea and with Rodan there, the odds increased. Without a second word, she went to the pair, who continued fighting. Godzilla just couldn't get along with anyone at that point.

When she arrived, Godzilla and Rodan were too enthralled in their battle to even notice her. But she caught their attention by shooting them with her webs. Both creatures then decided to listen to her. Godzilla wasn't particularly happy to see her, and Rodan saw her as nothing more than over-sized lunch. But they did listen.

She begged them to stop fighting each other and help her stop Ghidrah to save mankind. Rodan and Godzilla refused due to their despise and hatred of mankind who had done nothing to them but hurt and attack them. Finally Mothra played the final card she had, claiming that when Ghidrah absorbed the planet's life-force, they would die too. But still they were too stubborn to work with each other to even save their homes.

Defeated, Mothra left the two to their quarrel. She went to go fight Ghidrah alone...Eye witnesses who watched the entire conversation (translated by the Shobijin) claimed that something changed in the way Godzilla looked at Mothra as he watched her slither away. Godzilla seemed to see a new sense of honor and admiration for her courage. It puzzled him that a creature so small would stand up to a creature bigger than Godzilla himself! Regardless...he never truly focused on his fight with Rodan.

Mothra went down the mountain where Ghidrah had landed after causing a rock slide, killing the Princess's assassins. Instantly recognizing each other as former adversaries, they instantly attacked...well Ghidrah did. The three-headed Dragon was so more powerful than the larva that Mothra couldn't even shoot her webs at him. His lighting sent her flying deeper into the valley where they fought. Mothra screeched in pain the entire time. Then, as Ghidrah raised one giant foot to stop her into the ground, it seemed like the battle would be finished.

That is until a monstrous roar from up the mountain had answered Mothra's screeches of pain. Ghidrah turned in time to see Godzilla charging upon him. This shocked not only Ghidrah, the humans but Mothra as well. She expected that it was only a matter of time before Godzilla and Ghidrah met and fought. But, Godzilla was different when he descended that mountain. He was coming to Mothra's rescue. He had followed her to help! Mothra was indeed pleased, because of the two of them, Godzilla was the most likely to defeat Ghidrah, and now the two of them stood a chance.

However, Ghidrah put Godzilla down and knocked him into the bridge and quickly took to the air. He was preparing to attack them both from the air when suddenly he was knocked down by Rodan. He also joined the fight not wanting Godzilla to have all of the fun. He was determined to finish with Godzilla after it was over. Ghidrah quickly got back into the sky and chased after Rodan, but not quick enough to catch him.

Godzilla stood in front of Mothra and dropped his tail in front of her. The look he gave her seemed to say, "Grab on!" Immediately but as lightly as she could, she bit down on the tip of his tail. Godzilla then began to walk up the cliff dragging Mothra back up with him. Now the fight was on. Mothra's wisdom about her old opponent provided Godzilla and Rodan of his old weaknesses. Ghidorah couldn't see past his wings and was slow to turn around. Godzilla attacked from the rear.

He started with throwing boulders at Ghidrah from behind. It got his attention as Mothra went around and began webbing the Dragon up. But at her position she wasn't high enough to subdue Ghidrah's heads, which were essential. That is when Rodan reappeared and allowed Mothra to board his back. From the air, Mothra easily strung Ghidrah up with her webs. The webs began sticking Ghidrah's heads to his wings.

Once Godzilla was tossed back again, Ghidrah turned around to stop Rodan and Mothra. But the strong Godzilla got back up and grabbed Ghidrah from behind. It one strong move, he threw the Three-Headed Monster over the cliff. Once there, he threw more boulders at Ghidrah, over and over again. Until the Dragon decided that he had had enough and couldn't win. He took off for the skies and retreated into Space.

The three earth monsters had won. Godzilla and Rodan didn't resume their fight due to their mutual respect for each other. Mothra was pleased that she had new allies who had stopped her old enemy from destroying earth. But even more pleasing, she was right about Godzilla. Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla were now the Champions of Japan and the Saviors of the World...Godzilla was now Japan's Hero.

As for Ghidrah. It was so interesting seeing it. As Mothra proved, Rodan and Godzilla were capable of independent thought. And Ghidrah was no exception. But he was pure evil. And if he remembered Mothra...he would definitely remember Earth...and Godzilla.

The final entry for this file is an amusing one. Though all three Monsters fought against Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster was still the one most bet on to win the battle. Imagine the disappointment when the gamblers lost their money. But it was a battle that critically affected gambling in the Kaiju Wrestling Association for the rest of the Century.

Godzilla Month number 5. 24 more to go.

This one was interesting. So I don't wanna hear any of your bullshit comments about how the story is too stupid like the things with Mothra knowing about Ghidrah and Godzilla. And how there are a few loose ends. Plus, I hadn't seen this movie in years after seeing it only once. I also had to explain Rodan's back story and set it up for Hesei Deviation that I coincidentally made today.

Enjoy.
