"Mothra"

--

There are some monsters, news of which never made it to American shores. Mothra is one such creature.

For years she remained dormant and unheard on Infant Island, a land hiding a mystical secret. A secret that should never have been disturbed.

At first, everything on the island was believed to be due to radiation; the island was a test sight. But it did not explain the living plants, the tiny twin girls and least of all Mothra. The giant insect was indeed a living Goddess.

She answers to the call of the tiny twin native girls known as the Shobijin. (by most Japanese) Their songs are magical spells that empower the great moth...So whenever they are in danger, she is quick to the rescue. That is the incident of 1961 was such an occasion. After centuries in dormancy Mothra was awakened by the Shobijin after the pair was kidnapped off of the island. She hatched from her new egg and came to Japan. There it strung its cocoon on Tokyo tower and metamorphosed into an adult Moth.

The damage was minimal...not nearly as substantial as Godzilla's assaults or even Rodan's. But Mothra wasn't there for destruction, she was merely looking for her two fairies. It wasn't until her symbol was drawn on a runway at the airport that the destruction ceased. The Shobijin were returned to her and she went back to her island. And there was somehow a rainbow of hope for Japan knowing that there was a monster out there that did not always seek to destroy them.

However, at the end of this new Mothra's current life-cycle, it became time to start again. Reincarnating her powers inside an egg, Mothra waited to quietly die. And as the life from her old vessel burned out, the new vessel waiting inside her egg would be lit...Unfortunately unforeseeable circumstances put Mothra in a dilemma.

A typhoon swept past Infant Island (Sometimes called Modra Island) and washed Mothra's egg away. The storm took the egg to the shores of Japan where a greedy businessman claims that he 'bought' the egg. The egg made great news, even making it back to America. Since no one knew what the egg truly was, American reporters called the creature inside, "The Thing!"

"What is the Thing?!"

This angered Mothra after she and the Shobijin had gone to Japan to retrieve it. She was prepared to unleash all of that Anger on the country. But the Shobijin begged her to be patient and they should be as diplomatic as possible.

The pair went to the man who bought the egg and requested that he return the egg. But he, like many before him, attempted to capture the two girls and use them to make money. However, when the girls escaped, they found someone else who might help them; News reporter Ichiro Sakai, Photographer Junko Nakanishi and Professor Miura.

This trio was disgusted that the egg was being used as a Tourist Attraction. The Shobijin explain that soon the egg will hatch and the new Mothra will search for food and cause destruction. The three promise that they will do all they can. They try to gain support from the public, but they fail.

Mothra grew impatient and was ready to unleash Hell of Biblical proportions on all of Japan...but there was no need as Mothra sensed. She felt another's presence approaching Japan. HE would most likely destroy them and she would reclaim the egg afterward. Mothra then took the Shobijin and left the humans to their destruction.

Radioactivity in an industrial area was examined by the three. It was at that moment that the earth began to shift. Rising out of the loose soil was GODZILLA!!! Most believed that he was thrown inland and buried during the Typhoon. Others believed that his appearance from underground was because during the final moments of the fight with King Kong, Godzilla was buried in the avalanche. For years Godzilla lay under the ground unconscious until recently. He began burrowing under the ground until he found loose surface soil to break through. Regardless, Godzilla was back.

The Americans definitely were alerted by Godzilla's reappearance.

"Godzilla is BACK!!!"

Godzilla began trekking across Japan, unstoppable and unchecked. The military tried stopping him; burying him in a ditch, dropping nets on him, shocking him with lighting shooting towers and bombing him from the ocean. But nothing stopped him. It seemed like Godzilla was truly Indestructible! The bombs even set his head aflame and it didn't even slow him down.

But Godzilla also appeared to be a bit clumsy as well. He was spotted tripping into some buildings and getting his tail stuck in a tower. Most considered this because his body was only now getting used to walking around again. This weakness surprisingly didn't do much to stop Godzilla...but there was a chance. So far, the only thing that had proven to stop Godzilla was King Kong...perhaps Mothra could too!

Sakai, Junko and Murai gave the idea to Japan's prime minister to appeal to Mothra to fight Godzilla. They explained that her diving Godlike Powers could defeat Godzilla. But she was reluctant at first since Japan had claimed ownership of her child and refused to return it to her. But the Shobijin pleaded with her to stop Godzilla. She considered it...but her life force would be drained by the fight...she'd never make it back to the island. That would mean that she would have to depend on the newly hatched larva to make it back...THE EGG!!!

Mothra realized that as Godzilla moved across Japan, he was getting closer to the egg. It had been two years since Godzilla had eaten...He was going to eat the EGG!!! That was the final straw that broke the camel's back. Mothra agreed that she'd fight Godzilla at he cost of her own life.

News of this new hope excited all. Godzilla would be stopped by Mothra. The Americans were excited by the idea as well. Godzilla would have another epic fight with a giant monster. And Mothra's own story of being a Monster God excited them as well.

"What is the Thing? Born to Defy the World's Most Terrifying Monster Godzilla!!! Thing's Parent to fight Godzilla!"

"It looks innocent as a Gigantic Egg. But it's unseen powers are so great that it's worshipers beg the Thing's indulgence in their Tribal Ceremonies."

"The War of Giant Monsters that makes the Earth Tremble! Can Godzilla stand against the Thing's Unknown Powers? Will Mankind Survive Their Battle?"

"Godzilla vs. The Thing!!!"

These headlines were also the way to increase betting on which creature would come out victorious. The unknown appearance of the Thing and its Divine back story led many to bet on it to defeat Godzilla.

The Monster King was quickly approaching the egg. AND STILL NO SIGN OF MOTHRA!!! Regardless, Godzilla tore down the incubation chamber with his tail and was preparing to take the egg. And that is when Mothra appeared. The appearance of the Giant Butterfly actually dismayed many Americans who had placed their money on the Thing. However, with its windstorm inducing wings and ability to easily throw Godzilla around made it seem like a fair fight. Plus, she could fly...maybe she would win?

Godzilla however had her matched and she resulted in using her last weapon. Some claimed that the yellow fog was her poison spores at work. Other survivors of the original Mothra attack claimed that the fog was Mothra using her reflective scales as the more common usage as her final weapon before she dies. Regardless, no one knows. It had Godzilla pinned. But a quick blast of his atomic fire finished Mothra off.

Her burning carcass flew toward her egg. She knew that this fight was far from over but she decided that her old vessel should provide a shield for her new one. At the last moment, she called upon the Living Earth for more energy for the fight. Her powers transferred into the egg as well as her soul. The New Mothra was ready and in just enough time. Godzilla was headed for an island to cause more havoc.

The Shobijin used their most powerful spells to awaken the New Mothra within the egg. Once enough power had been transferred inside to awaken the new larva, the egg hatched...and the Shobijin, Japan, and the entire world received a great surprise. The New Mothra was born with at Twin Brother!!! Something usually unheard of as most Male Mothra's were extinct. This one was born from the excess energy that Mothra had received from the earth. This one was born with rage and unstoppable fury. Now it seemed that there was a chance to stop Godzilla.

Both Brother and Sister Larva followed Godzilla to the island and prepared for the second fight. While Mothra hid behind a boulder her brother bit down on Godzilla's tail. Godzilla flailed him around until he let down and slammed down on him with his tail. But Mothra's silk web shot at Godzilla managed to save her brother. Then both took turns webbing Godzilla up. Unable to strike both at once and barely able to hit the one in hiding while the other was webbing, Godzilla was soon cocooned. He went tumbling over the cliff and into the sea. Godzilla was defeated!!!

Both Larvae returned to Infant island with the Shobijin. They had bought peace for Japan...Mothra was overjoyed that she had conquered the Monster King. But there could only be one Mothra. When the energy ran out...her brother died...But it wasn't to be mourned. Nature had restored its balance. And now all was right...but regardless, Godzilla would be back...it was only a matter of when.

Godzilla fascinated Mothra...she sensed that he wasn't the dumb animal that the humans expected him to be. She felt feelings within him...Anger as well as an all consuming pain. A pain that was caused by mankind...she also felt Sadness. A sadness that she felt that she could quell...And if she could, then maybe she would put an end to Godzilla's rage and the world would be saved...And she needed to work fast, because she could sense it coming now. Soon the sky would turn red and herald the arrival of...HIM.

A final note worth mentioning would be that back in America, this file has gone on to be claimed as one of the greatest Godzilla fights in history. It was history in the making with the long history of Godzilla and Mothra.

But it wasn't all peaceful in America. For, those who bet on the Thing to defeat Godzilla weren't too quick to give up their money when Mothra's larva had stopped Godzilla, even though Mothra herself had died...The disputes have still lasted to this day...and yet after all of the courts and personal suits...it still has not been decided which side rightfully owns the money.

Godzilla Month Number 4. 25 more to go.

I personally don't know how to top King Kong vs. Godzilla, but I'll try my best.
There's a lot to explain though. For starters, I used Godzilla vs. Mothra instead of Godzilla vs. The Thing so I explained it that that is what the Americans called Mothra since they didn't know about her.
Plus the thing about the twin being a male born from excess energy. Well, I always believed that Mothra was mostly a female species that could literally do anything with magic power. Plus in the next movie, I hear the other Mothra being called 'He' all the time. Plus he died in that film so I decided to have some fun with it. I hope you enjoyed this one and please note that were just getting started.

One final note worth telling is that, I made the Showa era of Godzilla Month back in October. Now, I've started doing the Hesei era this month. And today I coincidentally made the Deviation to Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for the Earth...and you guys, are going to love it.
